I must admit that I am afraid, so much so that I could not sleep last night. I can only hope & pray that God intervenes and either dissipates the storm or sends it northeast out to sea.  The uncertainty of the strike zone forecast has so many people not knowing what to do. Disaster will be a mild definition word if the storm is a Cat 4 if/when it strikes land in Florida. I've got to calm myself down & quit shaking in order to accomplish the preparations I must do.

Psycho, I hope your son finds a good place to store his trailer and a safe place to stay. They are a very unsafe place to be in a storm. The uncertainty of the storm path leaves many people wondering where to evacuate to find a safe destination. My 80 year old sister lives just west of Daytona Beach in Deland. Her children, & one of my sons & all of his family members live in the Orlando area in Orange &  Seminole counties. I have over a hundred other relatives living from Melbourne & Deltona on the east coast to Valrico on the west and north to Zellwood. My other close relatives live in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and some more way out in California. Although they are all far from me we keep in touch. I've been through too many hurricanes to not feel uneasy about the uncertainty of this one.

I bought a corded landline phone to use if power goes out in which case my cordless one & computer would not work and I have no cell phone but flooding would likely take out the corded one also. I guess my greatest fear is oak trees or tall pines coming down on my house & other debris coming through windows or walls. I have no way to put plywood panels on the windows. Flooding, washed out roads, & a possible mud slide from a high hill close to my house are concerns also since I'm in a valley & close to the river. I have a generator but am not able to pull the rope to start it.  If power goes off I'll have no well water so I'm storing water in 1/2 gal milk jugs that I've saved for that purpose. I have some emergency foods on hand to get by as long as the storm doesn't  somehow damage them. The season is just starting with 3 more months to go, so I'll keep replenishing my emergency food supply.

Sunshine, I'm adding your best friend & BIL to my prayer list along with Psycho's family.

My boy just moved to Daytona a few months ago, he is helping a wealthy guy from here to start up a heating and air business  in Datona. The man owns a few hotels and stuff in the Daytona area. Mark has a big trailer he has been living in down there it has three or four pullouts on it Hope he finds a safe spot for it, thats his home down there.

Stay safe lady, and my prayers are with you.  Psycho

Thanks to all who are praying this storm turns northeastward and heads out to sea. Some forecasters this morning are saying that very scenario is now among their realms of possibilities. The power of prayer is a mighty force that should never be dismissed.  Smile

Naples is in Collier County on the SW coast of Florida. If the storm turns northward he and his trailer home should be safe there. Since the storm has slowed westerly forward speed to 7 instead of 8 it may turn more to the north today or tomorrow.

My sister lives a bit south of Camp Lejeune, NC in Carteret (?) County only 5 minutes from the ocean. Last years hurricane took them most the year to fix everything up from that storm and says there is still so much to do in her neighborhood...some still have not finished work. Mom lives 30 minutes inland but had to be evacuated clear across the state to a nursing home...she has Alzheimer's....85 years old. She was there for months while her regular home was repaired from floods and wind damage. She barely made it through that one.
    Prayers for all involved.

Adding them both to my specific list Sunshine. The potential catastrophic devestation and loss of life from this storm is beyond comprehension.

The cone of possibilities has been extended all the way up the east coast to New Jersey as of 5 PM EST and forward speed has slowed a little, now down to 5 mph which means it may turn north, then east out to sea.

According to federal regulations, in an emergency I should still be able to call 911 on my old deactivated cell phone with no account as long as it is charged and I can get a signal, but no one could call me and I would not be able to call any number other than 911. If necessary, I hope that actually does work.

I'll sure keep up with news of the Emerald Isle. I found the most informative up to the minute coverage available to me on Direct TV was and is the Severe Weather Channel 361-2.

I'm so thankful that  there wasn't any damage to amount to much here. I didn't get any flooding rain The top of a broken off oak tree was in the road I use to leave from here, along with some scattered limbs. My sister, her children, and my Florida son and his family received a lot of rain and some wind damage but they are all safe. They all had power outages as did my son in Georgia. He got heavy rain but no structural wind damage.

I'm praying that you, your mom, and sister will be unharmed and am keeping all of you in my prayers. I watched the developing tornadoes on radar and hope all of your homes are spared. The Emerald Isle photos are heartbreaking to view. They sure do show why no one should stay in a mobile home or travel trailer during a hurricane. So many people don't understand that waterspouts and spin off tornadoes are potentially part of the danger. Perhaps those photos of destruction will get the message to those people and save some lives in the future.

It's enough for me to never move any farther south than VA!   My sister got her power back on around 2 pm today...not much damage, just food loss which is shocking as they are so close to the coast. She got in touch with the nursing home, mom's okay but did not get to speak with her. Soooooo glad you are okay and your family too.

I've been reading the forecast discussion page on this matter all week including the probability that it would follow the same path as Dorian. It is only moving @ 1mph & bears watching for development of an eye. So far more of a rainmaker than severe damaging winds but the status could change today or tomorrow.
