About 2 weeks ago there was record snow in Ruidoso, NM. When I read that I looked at the highway maps and saw abut 2/3 of my trip to Alamogordo in that state was either closed or very tricky driving. I looked at alternate routes that would have added a lot more driving distance. They showed very icy conditions, too. We were planning on going with a front wheel drive, not 4WD, and my if refused to budge on that.

An hour later I was telling someone else about it. I looked at the map again and everything was clear except some mountain areas. Including Ruidoso.

I was worried we might run into another round when we went. But the only snow we saw anywhere near there was on mountaintops. No icy roads, either.

On the other hand, the wife wanted to go more northward to look at mountains along the way. That one did get us some snow. Mostly it was already on the ground before we got there. But there were quite a few cars, trucks and even an overturned tractor-trailer along the trip back. Which tells me we missed the worst of it by no more than a couple of days. Plenty of icy warnings, but only a little bit of slick highway in a couple of places.

Got back here and there was snow, temp 29. It was 60 when we left.

Very Happy  A flock of a couple hundred cardinals are hopping around in my yard and flying up and down from tree limb "observation decks". They didn't find any snow here but winter sure isn't over yet.  Smile

Yes, For one day every winter in north central Florida. They come in flocks of couple hundred, sometimes even more but they only stay for about 2 or 3 hours of that one day. Sometimes a few strays will show up the next day and then they are gone too.
