I don't know whether or not the automated ones have families but if they didn't get the day off too Ms Ocasio-Cortez would likely claim she would introduce anti discrimination legislation on their behalf.

I think they got the day off. Not out of fairness, mind you. But because one of the two human cashiers, the one that stands around while you do all of the work, had the day off.
