IRS Taxes for 2018 Empty IRS Taxes for 2018

Happy new year...if you have been using a 1040-A or 1040-E-Z in prior years, those forms are now extinct. There is now only one form - a revised 1040, previously known as the long form, to which you will attach various schedules depending on types of income you have and credits you are eligible to take. This revised, (shorter)1040 is supposedly to simplify your filing and take less time to fill out than previous forms. Next year, (in 2020) when filing 2019 taxes there will be a supposedly further simplified form 1040 especially for seniors over 65 to use.

I haven't seen it yet. But I remember the last time they "simplified" things in the 90s. My neighbors then were on welfare except the husband worked at a riverboat for a few months. (A real riverboat, not one of those fake ones they used to have as props for casinos on land that they pretended were boats so they could legally gamble. This one was on the water and really floated. I lived near St Louis then.) I did their taxes for them since I'd been doing it for years (since my teens, when I started doing my dad's forms) and they didn't want to pay somebody for almost no income. I swear, I did their form 4 different times before I finally got it right.

That was the EZ. I did my own on a 1040A and it was a breeze.

I hope this works out better than that. But it's the IRS, so we'll see.

Where near St Louis if you don't mind? I went to school in Troy and lived in St Charles for a short time.

At that time I was in Illinois. Swansea, which is right beside Belleville. I lived there for a couple of years before I retired from the Air Force and about another year after.

Later I moved from there to Jennings, real close to where the Ferguson riots/looting took place.  Closer to St Charles, but still on the other side of Lambert.

I just now looked up Troy. Didn't know where it was.

I actually started out in De Soto, about the same distance west of St Louis as Troy, but further south. Down past Arnold, Festus, etc, and north of Farmington.

That's where I was trying to get away from when I joined the Air Force. A volcano in the Philippines landed me in Illinois because it was closer to where I came from than anything else and they thought they were doing me a favor. If they would have asked me I would've told them anywhere other than the midwest. But they didn't ask me.

They sent me back going on 28 years ago. And I still haven't escaped the midwest again. If the housing market doesn't tank in the next year, I might finally leave it for good.

Okay..thanks.  Thought you might have been on the MO side. I escaped MO  to VA on the day Elvis died in 1977. Heard it on the radio as I was leaving for the airport.
